Will there be a 3rd subnautica game4/14/2023 ![]() Finding the right equipment, preparing yourself and slowly pushing your way into the dark and hostile depths of the planet made for one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences i have ever had in a video game. In the original Subnautica the real challenge was going deep. The depth part is the real problem though. There is no real reason to stay longer than absolutely necessary. It may look vaguely comparative in size on first glance but that is deceiving:Ī large part of the map is the land area which is just an uninteresting barren ice desert compared to the underwater portion with a lot less to explore. The map both in layout as well as in depth just doesn't compare to the original. Now to be fair that was to be expected and i wouldn't have minded it as much as long as the rest of the game held up. The graphical design of the underwater map is incredible the individual biomes are masterfully crafted and exploring them gives you a sense of wonder that you will not find in many other games. I sadly cannot in good conscience recommend Subnautica Below Zero, at least not at full price.Īlthough not bad on it's own, as other reviewers have already made abundantly clear, this sequel is significantly worse than it's predecessor and I want to expand a bit on why that is the case.įirst of all a few things i think Below Zero did well in my opinion:
